OpenAI is considering developing a web browser that would integrate with its chatbot, potentially competing with Google. The company has discussed the search product with developers like Conde Nast and Redfin. Google’s response to ChatGPT’s launch in 2022 was its own generative AI chatbot, Gemini. Alphabet’s shares fell 1% in extended trading after the news. The U.S. Department of Justice has challenged Google’s dominance in the browser market, suggesting it sell Chrome. OpenAI has also explored powering AI features on Samsung devices, in addition to its existing partnership with Apple. The company is not close to launching a browser, according to reports. Google, OpenAI, and Samsung have not commented on the news.
