PBR’s Boaventura UPGN Starts First Phase of Commercial Operations

Petrobras S.A. has started commercial operations at its new natural gas processing plant in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, processing 10.5 million cubic meters of natural gas daily. The facility is part of the Route 3 integrated project to increase gas transportation and processing capacity from the Santos Basin. Train 2 is expected to start operations soon, doubling the plant’s capacity to 21 million cubic meters per day.
The Boaventura UPGN is a key part of Petrobras’ project to increase Brazil’s clean energy supply and reduce energy imports. The facility processes gas into natural gas, LPG, and C5+ for petrochemical and fuel industries. Petrobras has signed contracts covering 70 billion cubic meters of gas sales up to 2034, enhancing its financial position and supporting Brazil’s energy transition.
