Peru, Japan strengthen ties with defense and mining agreements By Reuters

Peru’s president signed defense and mining cooperation deals with Japan’s Prime Minister after the APEC summit in Lima. The agreements include a 10-year cooperation roadmap and aim to boost mining supply chains. Peru is a top producer of metals, while Japan is a major consumer.

In addition to the deal with Japan, Peru also signed a defense cooperation agreement with South Korea, including a submarine deal with Hyundai Heavy Industries and a partnership with Korea Aerospace Industries to manufacture fighter aircraft parts. The agreements were made following the APEC summit in Lima.

Peru recently inaugurated the Chinese-built megaport of Chancay on the Pacific coast, promising faster and more efficient trade between Latin America and Asia. Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the inauguration, highlighting the port’s importance in facilitating trade between the two regions.
