Americans are set to break Thanksgiving travel records with nearly 80 million people traveling this year, up 1.7 million from 2023. American Airlines plans to carry 8.3 million passengers, Delta Air Lines expects 6.5 million, and Southwest Airlines and American Airlines anticipate peak volumes on Dec. 1. United Airlines projects a 20% increase in passenger volumes post-Thanksgiving.

Domestic airfare averages $273, up 9% from last year but lower than pre-pandemic levels. International flight bookings are up 23% with a 5% decrease in ticket costs compared to last Thanksgiving. AAA projects a record 71.7 million people will take road trips, helped by falling oil prices pushing the national average gasoline price below $3 a gallon.

Nearly 2.3 million people are expected to travel by bus, a 9% increase from 2023, driven by a 20% increase in domestic and international cruise bookings. Amtrak carried over 1 million customers in 2023 and expects more this year.
