Roblox is implementing new safety measures for users under 13, including removing the ability to message others outside games. Under-13 users can still message in-game with parental consent. Parents can now manage accounts, view friend lists, set spending controls, and manage screen time for their children on the platform, which has around 89 million users. Turkey blocked access to Roblox due to concerns of child abuse, and a lawsuit claims the platform facilitated the exploitation of a California girl by adult men. Users under 13 will now have limited access to public broadcast messages and content will be labeled from “Minimal” to “Restricted.” Users under nine can only access games labeled “Minimal” or “Mild,” and those under 13 cannot search or play unlabeled experiences. Restricted content will be inaccessible until a user is 17 and has verified their age.
