Russia halted gas supplies to Austria due to a payment dispute, but continued steady gas shipments to Europe via Ukraine. The Urengoy-Pomary-Uzhgorod pipeline, a main Russian gas route to Europe, is set to close at the end of the year. Austria’s energy regulator confirmed that gas deliveries from Gazprom to OMV had ceased, following an arbitration award. OMV seeks to recover 230 million euros in damages from Gazprom. Despite the halt in gas to Austria, Slovakia is still receiving gas from Russia. Chancellor Olaf Scholz spoke with President Putin about energy cooperation amid the ongoing gas politics and supply disruptions in Europe.
