SoftBank Corp. has developed 5G Layer 1 software on the NVIDIA Grace Hopper platform, achieving carrier-grade virtualized Radio Access Network performance. The outdoor testing environment in Kanagawa Prefecture processed 20 5G cells with 100 MHz bandwidth on a single server, reaching speeds of 1.3 Gbps per cell with 4-layer MIMO.
NVIDIA’s accelerated computing platform’s high-speed processing capabilities are ideal for high-frequency bands like the 4.9 GHz frequency used in the outdoor test. These capabilities can be applied to future 6G applications, such as centimeter waves, offering new possibilities for telecom networks.
SoftBank, with NVIDIA AI Aerial accelerated computing platform, has piloted the world’s first combined AI and 5G telecom network. This breakthrough opens up potential AI revenue streams worth billions of dollars for telecom operators, marking a significant advancement in computing technology and telecommunications industry.
