Swiss voters narrowly reject law giving landlords more power to restrict subletting, with 51.6% against. Advocates argue tenants are using Airbnb, while opponents say most Airbnb rentals are by landlords. Another rejected proposal would have given landlords more rights to terminate leases. Most Swiss households live in rented or cooperative dwellings.

In addition to the subletting law, voters also rejected the government’s plan to expand the motorway network. Residents of Zurich opposed an initiative to remove gender-inclusive language from official texts after months of debate.
