Walmart plans to scale back diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, no longer considering race and gender for supplier contracts and eligibility for financing. The retailer will also reduce racial equity training and participation in LGBTQ rankings and events. This follows similar moves by Starbucks, JPMorgan Chase, and Ford in response to conservative pressure.

Conservative activist Robby Starbuck disclosed Walmart’s DEI policy changes before Bloomberg’s report, following discussions with the retailer. Starbuck has targeted companies like Ford, Lowe’s, Harley-Davidson, Deere & Co, and Molson Coors, leading them to end certain diversity policies. Walmart’s shift reflects a broader trend of companies reevaluating their DEI practices.
