The delay in negotiating with the first Amazon warehouse union in Staten Island highlights weaknesses in labor law. Amazon has filed objections with the NLRB over the Bessemer union election and challenged the constitutionality of the NLRB in a federal lawsuit. A strike before Christmas could be the Teamsters’ last chance to make an impact before potential changes in labor law under the incoming administration.
