Dollar General tests same-day delivery as discounter chases Walmart
From CNBC: 2024-12-05 11:56:01
Dollar General is testing same-day delivery to customers’ homes in response to competition from Walmart, Amazon, and others. The delivery program is currently available at about 75 stores, with plans to expand to thousands. Dollar General has felt pressure from economic challenges and losing market share to Walmart.
The new offering, DG Delivery, allows customers to place orders through Dollar General’s app for same store prices and delivery in as little as an hour. The program accepts digital coupons and offers cash back rewards. There is no fee or minimum order requirement for DG Delivery, which relies on a third-party for labor.
Despite the potential growth opportunity, same-day delivery is only available at a small fraction of Dollar General’s 20,000+ stores nationwide. The retailer hopes to leverage the delivery program to engage customers with their app more frequently and boost their advertising business.
