The head of the FAA stated that Boeing has not resumed production of 737 MAX planes after a strike but plans to start later this month. Boeing’s top-selling airliner, the 737, is crucial to its financial future. The FAA capped production at 38 MAX planes per month due to safety issues. Whitaker expects an engine de-icing fix soon to move certification forward. Boeing is working on implementing an effective Safety Management System following past failures. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg is hopeful Boeing will stay on track with safety requirements. President-elect Donald Trump may replace officials like Whitaker, who was confirmed to a five-year term in October 2023. Whitaker has had preliminary talks with the Trump transition team but it’s unclear if he will remain in his role.
