Lazard has hired Chris Miller, a veteran Citigroup investment banker, as managing director to drive energy dealmaking efforts. Miller, based in Houston, will report to George Bilicic and bring 30 years of experience, including advising on APA Corp’s $4.5 billion acquisition of Callon Petroleum. Lazard and Citigroup declined to comment.

The move comes as Lazard aims to strengthen its energy dealmaking team amid a surge in U.S. energy M&A activity, driven by consolidation among oil and gas producers seeking prime drilling sites. The bank has been bolstering its financial advisory unit with top-level recruits, adding 16 managing directors in the year to Oct. 31 and reporting a 39% increase in revenue from the unit in the third quarter.
