The stock market took a hit on Friday morning, with the Dow dropping nearly 400 points, the S&P 500 falling 1.3%, and the Nasdaq Composite shedding 2%. Around 412 S&P 500 stocks were in decline.
Technology stocks were a major factor in the market’s decline, with the S&P’s tech sector down 1.8%. Consumer discretionary stocks also saw a decline of 1.6%, and the communication services sector dropped 1.2%. Trading was thin for the holiday-shortened week, with little news to drive market activity.
