The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 2.7% in November from a year ago, higher than October’s 2.6% rate. Core CPI, excluding food and energy, also rose 3.3% year over year. Economists expected a 0.2% monthly increase in November and a slight rise in the annual inflation rate to 2.7%.
Food prices increased by 0.4% in November, with grocery prices up 0.5% and restaurant prices up 0.3%. Energy prices were mixed, with gas service up 1.0%, fuel oil up 0.6%, gasoline up 0.6%, and electricity down 0.4%. Shelter prices rose 0.3% in November.
Overall, CPI increased 0.3% in November from the previous month, while core CPI also climbed 0.3%. This follows a 0.2% increase in October for both. Year over year, CPI rose 2.7% in November, while core CPI increased 3.3%.
