U.S. stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with losses in tech, consumer discretionary, and healthcare sectors. The Dow fell 0.07%, S&P 500 lost 0.43%, and Nasdaq dropped 0.88%. Top performers included Nike, Chevron, and Merck, while NVIDIA, Amazon, and Microsoft were the worst performers.
On the S&P 500, Moderna, APA Corporation, and Marathon Petroleum were top gainers, while Amentum Holdings, Tesla, and NVIDIA were the biggest losers. On the NASDAQ, Baird Medical Investment, Aptorum Group, and Coeptis Therapeutics saw significant gains, while Energous Co, Sangamo Therapeutics, and Intrusion Inc had significant losses.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the NYSE and Nasdaq. The VIX, which measures S&P 500 options volatility, was down 0.29%. Gold futures rose 0.79% to $2,638.69, while crude oil prices also saw gains. In forex trading, EUR/USD remained unchanged, USD/JPY rose, and the US Dollar Index Futures was up.
