Stocks are expected to open lower after recent gains, with S&P 500 futures down by 0.3 percent. Traders may be taking profits after the recent market strength. The Federal Reserve’s plans for interest rates may also impact trading. Jobless claims unexpectedly decreased to 219,000, lower than the expected 224,000. In an abbreviated Christmas Eve session, stocks surged, with the Dow up 0.9 percent, Nasdaq up 1.4 percent, and S&P 500 up 1.1 percent. In overseas trading, Asia-Pacific markets had mixed results. Crude oil is up to $70.64 a barrel, and gold is at $2,641.90 an ounce. The U.S. dollar is trading at 157.78 yen and $1.0401 against the euro.
