U.S. retail sales surged 3.8% between Nov. 1 and Dec. 24, outpacing last year’s 3.1% increase. Major retailers like Walmart, Target, and Amazon ramped up promotions to attract last-minute shoppers, accounting for 10% of all holiday spending.

Online sales increased by 6.7%, with apparel categories driving demand. Low-cost e-commerce competitors like Shein and PDD Holding’s Temu offered enticing Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals. Mastercard SpendingPulse tracks in-store and online retail sales, excluding automotive.
