U.S. LNG plant demand reached a record of 15.2 bcf on the last day of the year, signaling a strong year ahead with the startup of new plants. Demand is expected to rise to 17.8 bcfd next year due to new plant commissioning, potentially leading to higher gas prices at Henry Hub.

The U.S. is the largest exporter of LNG globally, with exports to Europe and Asia. Demand for LNG and feedgas tends to be higher in cooler months, increasing plant efficiency. Tuesday marked the third time in two weeks that U.S. LNG feedgas demand surpassed 15 bcfd.

Venture Global and Cheniere recently announced first LNG shipments from their expansion projects. U.S. gas demand for LNG is projected to increase to 20.3 bcfd by 2026 and 24.2 bcfd by 2028 as new plants ramp up production, including the upcoming Golden Pass LNG project on the Texas coast.
