American content creators on TikTok are urging followers to subscribe to their channels on Instagram and YouTube after a federal court ruled the app could be banned if not sold to a U.S. company by Jan. 19. TikTok has 170 million U.S. users and a TikTok Shop for small businesses.

Concerns about Chinese-owned ByteDance gathering American consumer data led to a law requiring TikTok’s divestment. Threats to ban TikTok have escalated, causing unease among users and content creators. Some fear the app won’t survive, prompting calls for followers to switch to other platforms like Instagram and YouTube.

Despite the uncertainty, some content creators are hopeful about TikTok’s future. Others, like SnipingForDom with 898,000 followers, are encouraging followers to connect on Instagram as a precaution. TikTok Shop consultant Sarah Jannetti’s clients are not worried and will wait for more concrete information before shifting their businesses.
