Chinese authorities are conducting industry hazard assessments to uncover hidden operational dangers in aviation following the deadliest year in commercial aviation since 2018, with 318 fatalities globally in 2021. The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) is alerting airlines to safety risks and adjusting flight routes to ensure safe operations.

Recent incidents include a Jeju Air jet crash in South Korea, killing 179 after a bird strike, and an Azerbaijan Airlines flight crash in Kazakhstan allegedly damaged by accidental shooting in Russia. Chinese carriers like Air China and China Southern Airlines are avoiding risky airspace, including Russian airspace due to the Ukraine conflict.

The CAAC is directing airports to prevent bird strikes and review runway safety hazards. Airports will intensify bird repelling operations and investigate hidden dangers to enhance runway safety. A major safety drive was launched after a China Eastern Airlines crash in Guangxi that killed 132, with no final report issued on the cause yet.
