Mercedes-Benz’s core car sales dropped by 3% in 2024 due to weak demand in a tough economy, especially in China. It sold 1,983,400 cars, with a 7% decrease in China and 3% decline in Europe. Sales of battery-electric cars fell by 23% to 185,100 vehicles, putting pressure on the carmaker to meet new EU CO2 emission targets. The automaker will cut profit margin targets and increase cost cuts due to the challenging market conditions. Mercedes plans to lower mid-term profitability targets as market conditions are expected to remain difficult.
