Microsoft Corporation is planning to cut jobs and take a tougher stance on underperforming employees. The company has not specified the scale of the cuts, but recent reports suggest backfilling roles will keep overall headcount stable. Microsoft had around 228,000 employees as of June 2024, with recent layoffs targeting underperforming divisions, including gaming. The technology industry as a whole has seen layoffs due to high interest rates and slowing investment, but Microsoft’s investment in artificial intelligence may help offset these challenges.
