Sensex, Nifty Follow Global Peers Lower; IT Stocks Surge

Indian shares opened lower on Friday, with the S&P/BSE Sensex down 288 points and the NSE Nifty index dropping 104 points. Prominent decliners included NTPC, BEL, IndusInd Bank, Adani Enterprises, and Shriram Finance. Mahanagar Gas dropped despite a 26% increase in gas allocations, while Polyplex fell after announcing a Rs 558 crore investment. Tata Elxsi plummeted after Q3 results missed estimates, IREDA declined despite a 26.8% growth in net profit, and Adani Wilmar plunged on news of a stake sale. GTPL Hathway tumbled, while TCS jumped 4% and peers Tech Mahindra, Infosys, Wipro, and HCL Technologies climbed. Phoenix Mills advanced after reporting strong growth in retail consumption.
