Southern California Edison, a unit of utility Edison International, faces multiple lawsuits alleging its equipment started one of the major wildfires in Los Angeles. The lawsuits were filed on behalf of those affected by the Eaton Fire, which has burned over 14,000 acres. Eyewitness accounts and data from Whisker Lab are cited as evidence.
At least 24 people have died in the wildfires, with more than 90,000 residents evacuated. The lawsuits claim Southern California Edison infrastructure was still energized at the time of the fire. The company’s shares have dropped nearly 12%, and investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the Eaton Fire and other blazes.
