Swiss Market Closes Moderately Higher

The Switzerland market closed higher on Monday, with the SMI up 0.58% at 11,691.13. VAT Group surged nearly 5%, Logitech International rose 3.85%, and Richemont gained 3.6%. UBS Group and Sika also saw increases. Retail sales growth softened in November, rising 0.8% year-on-year, lower than expected. Month-on-month sales dropped 0.1%. Givaudan closed down 1.44%, while Nestle lost nearly 1%. Overall, positive sentiment was driven by optimism about the Chinese economy and improving services sector activity in Europe.
Investors also analyzed manufacturing and services sector activity data from Germany, France, and the U.K. Lonza Group, Schindler Ps, Partners Group, Julius Baer, Holcim, ABB, SGS, and Geberit ended with strong gains. Sonova drifted down 0.7%. The Federal Statistical Office reported a slowdown in Swiss retail sales growth, with a 0.3% decline in nominal turnover on an annual basis.
