TSX closes higher for 9th day, led by communications and utilities, some stocks see gains.

The Canadian market closed higher for the ninth consecutive day, with the S&P/TSX Composite Index gaining 0.14% to finish at 25,468.49, the highest in six weeks. Communications and utilities led the gains, while technology and energy stocks lagged. Torex Gold Resources, Canadian Tire Corporation, and others saw gains of 3 to 5%, while some like Richelieu Hardware and Ag Growth International lost 1.6 to 3.2%. Agnico Eagle Mines acquired 94.1% of O3 Mining. New home prices in Canada fell by 0.1% in December 2024, and manufacturing sales rose by 0.6% in the same month.
