The U.S. Transportation Department fined JetBlue Airways $2 million for operating four chronically delayed flights on domestic routes, a first for such a penalty. JetBlue will pay $1 million as a fine and compensate affected customers. The airline will provide vouchers worth $75 for future cancellations or delays caused by them in the next year.
JetBlue did not admit liability but settled with USDOT to avoid litigation expenses. The airline operated chronically delayed flights between various destinations, causing 395 delays and cancellations across four flights. USDOT estimates JetBlue was responsible for over 70% of disruptions on these flights.
