Scout Motors has received over 50,000 reservation deposits for its electric pickups and SUVs, including the Terra pickup truck and Traveler SUV, offered as all-electric models or EREVs. The brand aims to boost its U.S. market share, currently at 4%, with vehicles expected to arrive in 2027. Customers can reserve with a $100 refundable deposit.
Scout CEO Scott Keogh noted that reservations have exceeded expectations, with around 70% for the Traveler SUV. The breakdown between all-electric and EREV models remains undisclosed. EREVs act as plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, with more than 500 miles of range for EREV vehicles and up to 350 miles for all-electric models, expected to start under $60,000.
At CES, Scout showcased the connectivity and in-vehicle user experiences of its upcoming truck and SUV, designed as outdoor recreational models akin to Jeep and Rivian. The company is constructing a plant in South Carolina with a 200,000-vehicle annual production capacity, using batteries from a VW joint venture battery cell manufacturer in Canada. Scout also plans to utilize software and electrical architecture from a $5.8 billion joint venture deal between Rivian and VW in its vehicles. VW acquired the Scout trademark following its $3.7 billion acquisition of Navistar in 2021.
