Chinese electric car giant BYD announced on Feb. 10, 2025, the integration of DeepSeek into its AI model for new driver-assistance tech. BYD founder Wang Chuanfu stated that advanced smart driving will now be a standard safety feature across their cars, including a low-cost option at $9,555.

BYD is the first automaker in China to offer advanced driver-assistance below 70,000 yuan, utilizing the “DiPilot” system. This marks a shift in competition strategy from price cutting to function upgrades in 2025. DeepSeek AI integration will enhance intelligent features, allowing BYD to dictate technological advancements.

BYD’s move aligns with the trend of Chinese automakers integrating driver-assistance features to improve safety and stand out in the competitive market. More than 20 models with the new tech were launched, showcasing the company’s commitment to innovation. While BYD expands globally, specific plans for international availability were not disclosed.

Tesla’s “Full-Self Driving” is still pending regulatory approval in China, despite Elon Musk’s expectations. Other Chinese automakers like Xpeng, Li Auto, Nio, and Xiaomi have rolled out driver-assistance functions, leveraging Nvidia chips. Analysts caution that the DeepSeek integration could pose challenges for BYD in Western markets due to national security concerns.
