Coca-Cola discusses Trump aluminum tariffs

From CNBC: 2025-02-11 10:36:13

Coca-Cola may shift more packaging from aluminum to plastic bottles if Trump’s tariffs are imposed. The company’s CEO, James Quincey, reassured that they have other packaging options to maintain affordability. Trump’s tariffs are targeting China, but the impact on Coke’s business is manageable. Coke is also looking into domestic aluminum sources to offset the effects of the tariffs.

Despite the shift to more aluminum packaging in recent years, Coke has been named the world’s worst polluter by Greenpeace for its single-use plastic usage. Coke recently revised its sustainability goals, aiming for 35-40% recycled material in packaging by 2035, down from the previous target of 50% by 2030. The company also wants to ensure the collection of 70-75% of bottles and cans introduced annually by 2030.
