The Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO) has surpassed State Street’s SPDR S&P 500 ETF (SPY) to become the largest ETF in the world, with $632 billion in assets compared to SPY’s $630 billion. VOO, IVV, and SPLG offer lower expense ratios than SPY, attracting cost-conscious investors. VOO broke records for annual inflows last year and continues to attract billions in assets. Vanguard’s unique ownership structure, which passes along profits to reduce costs for clients, has contributed to VOO’s success. Analysts believe VOO could remain the ETF king for a long time, backed by strong performance and low fees.
