Issues $13.4M in bonds for Bitcoin purchases

Japanese Bitcoin treasury firm Metaplanet issued 2 billion Japanese yen ($13.35 million) in bonds to expand its BTC reserves. This marks the seventh time the company has issued ordinary bonds for Bitcoin purchases, with each bond having a face value of 50 million yen and no interest.
Metaplanet has purchased Bitcoin on 17 occasions since May 2024, accumulating 2,235 BTC valued at approximately $192.4 million. The company’s stock prices on the Tokyo Stock Exchange have surged 3,225% since early 2025 due to Bitcoin acquisitions, although they have slightly pulled back.
Metaplanet aims to acquire 10,000 Bitcoin by Q4 2025 and increase its total holdings to 21,000 BTC by the end of 2026, worth $2 billion at current market prices. The company’s shift towards Bitcoin accumulation has drawn comparisons to MicroStrategy, a US software firm that pioneered Bitcoin treasury investments.
