H.R. 708, the Strategic Homeland Intelligence and Enforcement Legislation to Defend Against the CCP Act, has been introduced with 7 cosponsors. The bill aims to establish a Working Group within the Department of Homeland Security to counter threats from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

The Working Group will focus on counterterrorism, cybersecurity, border security, and transportation security. It will be led by a Director appointed by the Secretary of Homeland Security and will report directly to the Secretary.

Key responsibilities of the Working Group include examining and reporting on DHS efforts to combat CCP threats, assessing resources dedicated to counter these threats, and identifying policy gaps to enhance coordination among DHS components.

The Working Group will coordinate with various government levels to share information on CCP threats, conduct annual assessments for five years, and ensure activities respect constitutional rights and privacy regulations.

Operating for seven years, the Working Group will undergo reviews and reports for accountability. The Secretary of Homeland Security will also focus on advancing technologies and methods to enhance security measures related to CCP threats.

Relevant companies like Apple Inc., Tesla Inc., and Nike Inc. could face scrutiny due to their ties with Chinese suppliers and manufacturers. This article is not financial advice.
