Nvidia faces stiff competition from Huawei despite U.S. sanctions

Chip giant Nvidia has identified Huawei as a heightened competitor, despite U.S. restrictions. Nvidia listed Huawei among competitors for the second year, including in categories like chips and cloud services. Huawei’s revenue surged 22% in 2024, reaching 860 billion yuan, marking the fastest growth since 2016.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang acknowledged the vigorous competition in China, with Huawei being very competitive. U.S. restrictions on Huawei since 2019 have limited access to American technology, impacting revenue growth. Huawei’s revenue barely grew in 2020 and dropped nearly 29% in 2021.
Huawei made a comeback in the smartphone market in 2023 with the Mate 60 Pro, offering 5G speeds. In 2024, Huawei launched the Mate 70 series with HarmonyOS NEXT, the company’s first fully self-developed operating system. The competition between Nvidia and Huawei continues to intensify in the tech industry.
