T-Mobile US, Inc. partners with Elon Musk’s SpaceX unit Starlink for satellite-based connectivity service, currently in public beta testing. The service covers over 500,000 square miles of unreachable land area in the U.S., using specially configured satellites orbiting 200+ miles above the Earth. Text messages are currently available, with pictures, data, and voice calls coming later. Emergency alerts are also broadcasted. During beta, Verizon and AT&T customers can use the service for free, with a $20 monthly fee once live. T-Mobile CEO calls it a “massive technical achievement.” Retail investors on Stocktwits show positive sentiment towards T-Mobile stock.
