SoftBank Group reported a surprise quarterly loss with revenue of 1.83 trillion yen, missing estimates. The Vision Fund posted a loss of 352.75 billion yen, down from gains in previous quarters. Investments in public and private companies saw declines, impacting the overall portfolio value. SoftBank is shifting focus to AI investments, closing in on a $40 billion deal with OpenAI at a $260 billion valuation, surpassing Microsoft as top backer. The company also committed to a $3 billion annual investment in OpenAI’s tech. SoftBank shares rose 45% last year.
