U.S. stock markets closed lower on Monday with concerns about the tariff war and supply-chain management. Investors were relieved by a one-month delay in U.S. tariffs on Canada and Mexico. The Dow fell 0.3%, the S&P 500 slid 0.8%, and the Nasdaq shrank 1.2%.

Apple Inc. stock price tumbled 3.4% on Monday. The S&P 500 finished at 5,994.57, with six sectors in positive territory. The Nasdaq Composite ended at 19,391.96, down 1.2%. The fear-gauge CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) jumped 13.3% to 18.62.

The White House announced tariffs on Canadian, Mexican, and Chinese goods, sparking trade war fears. The manufacturing PMI for January beat estimates at 50.9%. Construction spending in December rose 0.5%, exceeding expectations. The Employment Index rose to 50.3% in January.
