The Taiwan stock market climbed higher in five straight days before the Lunar New Year break, gaining over 1,000 points. The market closed just above 23,525 points. Global markets are soft due to concerns over U.S. tariffs. The TSE finished higher on Jan. 22 with technology and plastics companies leading gains, while financial shares were mixed. Major U.S. indexes closed in the red on Friday. President Trump’s threatened tariffs on major trading partners led to a late market slide. Oil futures settled lower amid uncertainty over tariff implementation and a stronger dollar.
