Luxury EV maker Tesla Inc. is recalling 376,241 vehicles in the U.S. due to potential power steering assist software failure, increasing the risk of a crash. The recall involves 2023 Model 3 sedans and Model Y SUVs running older software versions. Tesla has released an OTA software update to fix the issue remotely.

The use of older software could lead to overvoltage, causing a loss of power steering assist when the vehicle accelerates. This could require more effort to control the car, increasing crash risk. Tesla is not aware of any crashes, injuries, or deaths related to the condition. This is the second major recall this year by Tesla.

In previous recalls, Tesla had recalled nearly 700,000 vehicles in December 2024 due to issues with the tire pressure monitoring system warning light. In January, about 239,000 vehicles were recalled for a rear-view camera issue. In July 2024, Tesla recalled 1.85 million vehicles in the U.S. due to software failure to detect an unlatched hood. All issues were rectified with OTA software updates.
