Apple has announced a new investment fund in China to support its goal of a 100% renewable energy supply chain by the end of the decade. The company has committed up to $99.3 million for the second phase of its China Clean Energy Fund, exceeding its initial goal of almost $300 million.
The first fund has already built over 1 gigawatt of wind and solar projects in 14 Chinese provinces. With the new investment, Apple plans to add about 550,000 megawatt-hours of wind and solar capacity annually. The fund is managed by Schroders and aims to drive innovation and progress in green manufacturing.
Apple’s COO Jeff Williams stated that Chinese suppliers are making world-class advances in smart and green manufacturing. The company aims to reach carbon neutrality through its supply chain and product lifecycle, with two-thirds of its production in China already relying on renewable energy. Additionally, Apple plans to invest $500 billion in U.S. manufacturing and AI development.
