Apple is set to unveil a major redesign of its iPhone, iPad, and Mac operating systems with iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and macOS 16. The updates will feature extensive changes to icons, menus, apps, windows, and system controls to create a more cohesive user experience.
The new design draws inspiration from visionOS, Apple’s interface for the Vision Pro mixed-reality headset, incorporating rounded icons, translucent panels, and enhanced depth and shadow effects. VP Alan Dye is leading the redesign, set to be unveiled at WWDC in June.
This overhaul is expected to be one of Apple’s most significant software updates, comparable to iOS 7 in 2013 and macOS Big Sur in 2020. The move comes as Apple seeks to revitalize its product lineup amid declining iPhone sales and delays in advanced AI technology like Siri.
Analysts believe the redesign could enhance user engagement by simplifying features, especially on iPadOS. However, while the modernized interface may attract users, technological advancements will be crucial for sustaining device sales growth in the long term.
