French videogame maker Ubisoft has established a subsidiary with Tencent investing 1.16 billion euros. The new entity, valued at 4 billion euros, will merge popular brands like Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry. Tencent’s involvement follows a rise in Ubisoft’s shares after reports of seeking investors. The subsidiary will focus on developing key franchises, aiming for long-term growth and success. CEO Yves Guillemot sees this as a foundational step in transforming Ubisoft’s operating model, fostering innovation and growth in emerging franchises. Tencent President Martin Lau is optimistic about evolving franchises into long-term game platforms.
