Brazilian lawmakers are considering new legislation to allow employers to pay salaries in cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. Federal deputy Luiz Philippe de Orleans e Bragança introduced bill PL 957/2025, legalizing partial salary payments in Bitcoin while requiring part of the pay to be in Brazilian real. Orleans-Braganza also proposes capping crypto payments at 50% of an employee’s salary.
The bill prohibits full salary payments in crypto, except for expatriate or foreign workers. Independent service providers can receive full crypto payments with certain contractual provisions. At least 50% of the total salary payout must be in Brazilian real, with the conversion into crypto based on the official exchange rate set by the Central Bank of Brazil.
Orleans-Braganza is a descendant of Brazil’s former royal family and supports Truth Social, a social media platform owned by US President Donald Trump. The proposed legislation aims to regulate crypto payments for wages, remunerations, and labor benefits. Further details will be added as the story develops.
