Canadian Solar Posts Wider Q4 Loss, Reaffirms 2025 Outlook Amid Fierce Industry Headwinds

Canadian Solar Inc. reported a wider Q4 loss, with a net revenue decline of 10.6% to $1.52 billion. Gross profit was $217 million, up 2% year over year. Total module shipments reached 8.2 GW, with operating expenses rising to $344 million. The company expects Q1 revenue of $1.0 billion—$1.2 billion.
Despite industry headwinds, Canadian Solar’s energy storage segment drove profitability. The company reported an adjusted net loss of $99 million for Q4. Operating cash flow was $66 million, with total debt at $5.2 billion. The company reaffirmed its 2025 outlook, expecting total revenue of $7.3 billion—$8.3 billion.
For Q1, Canadian Solar anticipates lower margins due to smaller storage shipment volumes. The company expects total module shipments to be 6.4 to 6.7 GW. Looking ahead to 2025, CSIQ projects total module shipments of 30 GW to 35 GW and total battery energy storage shipments of 11 GWh to 13 GWh.
CSIQ shares traded lower by 0.41% at $9.665. Chairman and CEO Shawn Qu highlighted the challenges faced by the solar industry but emphasized maintaining profitability. The company remains committed to prioritizing profitability over volume amidst ongoing consolidation in the solar market.
