Crypto users are facing scam emails impersonating Coinbase and Gemini exchanges, instructing users to set up new wallets with pre-generated recovery phrases controlled by scammers. The emails mention legal actions against both exchanges, with the SEC dismissing a lawsuit against Coinbase and ending an investigation into Gemini.

The phishing attacks cost users $1 billion across 296 incidents, as flagged by CertiK’s annual Web3 security report. Scammers have also targeted crypto founders with fake Zoom calls to steal sensitive data. The Lazarus Group’s preferred exploit in crypto hacks has been revealed in a recent magazine article.
