The European Commission has approved 47 strategic projects to strengthen raw material capacities, aiming to meet 10% extraction, 40% processing, and 25% recycling of EU raw material demand by 2030. The projects focus on critical materials like lithium, nickel, cobalt, manganese, and graphite, with a total investment of €22.5bn.

These projects, approved under the Critical Raw Material Act, aim to reduce Europe’s reliance on China and diversify supply chains. They span 13 EU member states and cover extraction, processing, recycling, and raw material substitution stages. The EU aims for self-sufficiency in raw materials to bolster industrial sovereignty and decarbonization efforts.
