Europeans are not interested in adopting the digital euro, preferring traditional payment methods

European consumers are showing minimal interest in adopting the digital euro, according to an ECB working paper surveying 19,000 respondents across 11 euro-area countries. The survey revealed that Europeans prefer traditional payment methods and see no real benefit in a new payment system. Educating consumers through video information could aid in adoption.
Despite the push for CBDCs, US lawmakers like Representative Tom Emmer are intensifying their opposition. Emmer believes that CBDC technology is “inherently un-American” and is reintroducing the CBDC Anti-Surveillance State Act to prevent future administrations from launching CBDCs. Meanwhile, Deutsche Börse CEO calls for the establishment of a permanent digital euro to strengthen financial autonomy.
