Former Intel CEO, Pat Gelsinger, joins Playground Global as general partner and board member of a startup improving chip manufacturing tools. Playground has $1.2 billion in assets and focuses on deep tech investments. Gelsinger aims to find technologies that outperform existing ones by 10 times, staying ahead of innovation.

Gelsinger’s first move is to lead xLight, a Playground portfolio company, as executive chairman. xLight is developing a new laser technology for chip manufacturing, aiming to increase productivity and speed while reducing electricity usage. Gelsinger sees this as a way to advance Moore’s Law and boost chip production in the U.S.
