Giyani Metals Corp produces High Purity Manganese Oxide, aims to cater to battery market demands
From GlobeNewswire: 2025-03-03 07:00:00
Giyani Metals Corp has successfully produced High Purity Manganese Oxide (HPMO) at the Demonstration Plant in Johannesburg. This milestone marks a key achievement for the company as HPMO is a precursor for certain electric vehicle and energy storage system batteries. Samples are expected to be shipped in March to prospective offtake partners. The company aims to produce both HPMO and High Purity Manganese Sulphate Monohydrate (HPMSM) to cater to the evolving battery market demands. The Demo Plant remains on track to produce HPMSM in Q1 2025, with samples to be provided for potential offtakers as part of the offtake process. The Giyani team is attending the PDAC conference in Toronto this week to engage with stakeholders in the industry.
The construction of the Demo Plant, which consists of nine Process Modules, is complete, and the Production ramp-up phase is well underway. The Demo Plant has faced commissioning challenges, including power outages and water supply disruptions, which were mitigated in February 2025. Concurrently, metallurgical test-work is being conducted to optimize the flowsheet for the Commercial Plant. The Demo Plant is designed at a scale factor of approximately 1:10 to the planned Commercial Plant to ensure reliable scale-up of operations. Standard Operating Procedures from the Demo Plant will facilitate a smooth transition to full-scale commercial production.
Giyani recently received its Special Economic Zone (SEZ) license for its Commercial Plant in Botswana, offering fiscal and non-fiscal benefits to the company. In February, the company launched a tender for site preparation works, reserved for Botswanan citizen-owned companies, ensuring local community involvement in the project. Giyani aims to become a leading producer of sustainable, low carbon high purity battery-grade manganese for the EV and ESS industry. The company has developed a proprietary hydrometallurgical process to produce battery-grade manganese critical for electric vehicles and energy storage systems.
